Thoughts on Worship

This page is dedicated to one of my favorite subjects --
worship of the Lord. There are so many different areas and things
to cover and I cannot possibly cover them on this one page. However,
I will do my best to share my heart with you, the reader. The Lord
has graciously taught me many things about worship and I am so excited
to have this medium to be able to share some of those things with you.
There is an old hymn - one of my favorites - called, "Holy, Holy, Holy." Sometimes us "modern" Christians just need to go back and read some of the words to these traditional hymns - they are so powerful! Here are some of the verses to this great hymn that are so anointed - you'll see what I mean as you read and listen.
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and Mighty!
God in Three Persons, Blessed Trinity!
Holy, Holy, Holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim, falling down before Thee.
Who wert, and art, and evermore shall be.
Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name in earth and sky and sea!
Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and Mighty!
God in Three Persons, Blessed Trinity!
Hallelujah! Doesn't that just make you want to fall at His feet and worship Him? He IS Holy and Merciful and oh, so Mighty! He is worthy of all our worship, for He IS the Mighty God, the Holy One, Our Creator! Lord, we just worship you right now!
The Lord exhorts us in His Word to worship Him with all our hearts, and that our worship should come to Him wholeheartedly. When I think of the Lord and what He has done for me at Calvary, and the price He paid for my salvation, I cannot help but worship Him. When I think of my sin and who and what I would be without Him, and then begin to think of what He has made me WITH Him, I cannot help but worship Him. When I meditate on His Precious Word that came straight from the Father's Heart to me, and when I read about who I am in Christ and the overcoming
victory He has given me, I cannot help but worship Him. There are many reasons for us to worship the Lord -- and they are all found in the Word. As we just meditate on the Word, praise and gratitude wells up in our hearts, and deep within our being, we desire to worship Him. If we think of what He has done for us through His death on the cross, and all that was provided for us in salvation, that would be enough to cause us to worship Him for all eternity!
There are many exhortations in the Word to worship the Lord, and there are many different words in the Greek and Hebrew for "worship." One Hebrew word that is used many times in Psalms for "worship" is "shachah" which means, according to the Strong's Concordance, "to ...prostrate (especially reflexive, in homage to royalty or God); to bow (self) down, crouch, fall down (flat), humbly beseech, do (make) obesiance, do
reverence, make to stoop, worship." That is an excellent definition of what it means to worship the Lord! As we worship Him from our hearts, we often do kneel down, or fall at His Feet. Here are some verses that use this Hebrew word for "worship" in them:
Ps. 5:7 "But as for me, I will come into Thy house in the multitude of Thy mercy; and in Thy fear will I worship toward Thy holy temple."
Ps. 29:2 "Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness."
Ps. 66:4 "All the earth shall worship Thee, and shall sing unto Thee; they shall sing to Thy name. Selah."
Another verse that will cause us to worship our Awesome God as we meditate on it is Zeph. 3:17, which says,
"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; He will save, He will rejoice over thee with joy; He will rest in His love, He will joy over thee with singing."
Wow!! Did you read that? Did you get that? The LORD rejoices over us!!! That word rejoice in the Hebrew, is suws, which means, "to be bright, i.e. cheerful; to be glad (greatly), joy, make mirth, rejoice." Our God rejoices over us! He is joyful and glad in us! He rejoices over us! How great and glorious is our God, that He rejoices over His people -- even as imperfect as we are. He is like a parent who, even thought their child makes mistakes, loves that child above all things -- he delights in that child, he smiles at even the thought of that child. If we as earthly parents take delight in our earthly children, how much more does our Heavenly Father take great delight in us, His children?!?
Like I said, this page was not intended to be an exhaustive study on worship, but rather just my opinions and beliefs about the subject. I praise God for the things He has taught me about worship, and I will continue to update and change this page
as time goes by. I pray that the thoughts on this page have blessed you and even provoked some thought (and WORSHIP!) in your life about worshipping the Lord. Let us all be worshippers of our Living God Who is worthy of all our praise!
