This is a memorial page for Caesar, my mackeral tabby. He came to live with me a few days before Christmas in 1994. He was only four weeks old at the time. He has been such a wonderful cat, full of personality and life - everything you'd want in a cat. He had his little quirks and funny actions that made you laugh; and he could be so sweet and make you cry.

He enjoyed a life of leisure inside - never went outside, except once - when I had a problem with my front door staying latched, and a strong north wind blew it open in the middle of the night. I woke up about 4 a.m. - thinking it was colder in the house than usual; then had a "feeling" so I ran to the front door, which was standing wide open. And my little Cee was standing wide-eyed on the front porch like, "What do I do now?" I quickly scooped him back up and took him inside, shutting the door behind us.... needless to say, the door was soon fixed!!

The first few years of his life, he would come with me every time I went to see my parents. One of his favorite things to do was ride "shotgun" on the back window of my car. He loved to ride back there and watch the traffic... and who knows what all else.

When he was at my parents, Dad taught him how to play with a flyswatter.... lol and for years, every time I got a flyswatter out to kill a bug, he thought I was playing. It was hard for him to comprehend doing anything else with a flyswatter but letting him swat at it....or bite it!!

He loved to cuddle with me, and his favorite thing was for me to lay down on the bed, and let him crawl up on my chest, put his paws on my chest, and put his nose on my nose... and just purr. He also loved for me to scratch his chin and his ears. I'd scratch his chin and ears till we both drifted off to sleep. Many times, we'd go to sleep just like that - almost every night.

He loved to sleep on my bed, as close to me as he could get. When other cats started coming into the household, he still managed to sleep on the bed beside my pillow. And when I got a bigger bed a couple of years ago - well, that was even better! More room for him.... lol

Here's a link to a page that tells a bunch of cute things Caesar used to do!

I began to notice - around the end of October, first of November, of 2005, that he was really getting thin. Then he started using the bathroom outside the litter box almost all the time. So I became concerned and took him to the vet. That was on Friday, November 18, 2005.

The vet was really concerned about his kidneys, and didn't think they were functioning very well. So he did a battery of tests; the preliminary results were that it was thyroid problems. The kidney wasn't functioning the way it should; but they thought it was because of the thyroid being out of balance.

However, once he was at the vet's, he never did eat or drink. They had to force-feed him; and even then, it was hard for him to keep the food down. They also had to give him fluids, as well. Finally, on Wednesday, November 23, 2005, they called me at home (I was off work for the Thanksgiving holidays)and said he wasn't any better, and they thought it would be best to go ahead and put him down.

I was already prepared for that possibility, but it was still hard. I got up to the vet's office as quickly as I could. The lady at the front said I could go back and see him - she said I could get him out and bring him up to the front if I wanted. So I did.... sat in a little chair - not in the waiting room, but in the office part. We had to wait, but that was good.... I got to spend about 30 minutes holding him, patting him, talking to him (and crying, of course).

I am so thankful for my vet and their staff - they really did everything they could for him, before even suggesting the inevitable. And one lady who worked there told me that she had gone through the same thing two weeks ago with her dog. She was, as they all were, so wonderful; so sympathetic - understanding exactly what I was going through. My vet is so tenderhearted - it was really hard for him, too. He has treated Caesar for a lot of years.

Some precious friends let me bury him in their back yard.... Cleo and Charlie are buried there, as well. Their son works at the vet's office, and really helped me look after Caesar, giving him extra blankets to lay on, and tending to him personally. I'm so thankful for that family and their friendship.

Well, I guess that's it for Caesar's Memorial Page. I have lots of pictures of him already on this web site; below are links to those pages.
