Cindy's Musings

This is the blog about me and my life; interesting, mundane, hopeful, boring, all the things that my life is.... it's a new experiment I'm just learning about.

This is my first entry on my blog. I'm VERY new at this, so I'm just feeling my way around right now. This blog will be about my life and whatever I think might be interesting! :o)

This is my blog about my life. I'm just learning how these things work, so this is just plain Jane right now. Hopefully I can learn more and refine and redo my blog as I go. Right now, I am staying in my home town, with my dad, who is recovering from heart surgery. He lives by himself (mom passed away a few years ago) and he is just recovering from the surgery. We are doing pretty well and getting better daily. It is hard to be away from my home; but my job is working with me, and I am able to do a lot of my work online, so that helps tremendously. I have great friends, too, who are helping take care of my animals back home. I have one bird and one cat here with me, but the rest of my cats and birds are at my home. So I have some GOOD friends who are looking after my "zoo" for me till I can come back home. That's it for me for today, I guess! :o)

Well, another day has gone by; tomorrow I will go to Durant to work. I've been working in Sherman all week, and tomorrow is my day to work in Durant. Dad has a doctor's appointment in the morning, so I'll take him to that; and then head up to Durant.

My kitty Chicklet has been here with me for a couple of weeks; I've been giving her antibiotics. We just finished those last night, so she will go with me to Durant and be staying there with the other kitties. Skyler, my Quaker, is here with me in Sherman too. She will be staying with me for a while. It will be good for her to just be around me -- with just she and I. I know she has missed me while I've been here in Sherman.

We have a staff meeting tomorrow afternoon, so I will go to that; and I'm also going to meet with some people about a project they want me to help with. I will probably be bringing work home with me.... not to do over the weekend, but to do next week.

I'll go to Durant to church on Sunday, and will pick up anything else that has accumulated.... and bring it to work on Monday to finish up. I also get work delivered from time to time, from people coming from Durant to Sherman.... that way, I can stay caught up with stuff. The internet and being connected helps so much!! I can work just about anywhere; there are only a few things that I actually need to be in Durant to do. Pretty cool, huh?
Well, that is my life today.... :o)

It's the weekend!

Well, it's Saturday night here in Sherman, Texas. We got a lot done today on the house, both inside and out. Dad and I cleaned some, changed sheets on his bed and did some laundry. Then my cousin Tim and his son Taylor came over to help us with some yard work. Taylor mowed the yard; Tim helped with some yardwork around the outside and kept Dad occupied. :o)

I took a break and went and got a pedicure (had the appt. scheduled for a while), so that was nice. I will go to Durant tomorrow for church, and then stay and clean my own house... lol I do need to clean bird cages, and vacuum; dust some too; maybe do laundry.

I will go to the 9:00 service and then I think I'm going out to eat with friends :o) that will be nice too!! It will be good to be in my own home for once; and although I realize that some day, THIS home will be mine, right now - everything is in Durant - well, mostly. I do have some stuff here with me in Sherman. But it's so hard to have stuff in one place and be staying in another. Kinda reminds me of my college days, actually.... lol

Well, that's all for today, I guess. Not very adventuresome day, but it's my life :o)

New job, at new place

Just wanted to post an update on Dad and me ....
We went to the heart surgeon on Tuesday. March 21, 2006. He looked dad over pretty good, and then pronounced him healthy and doing well. He released him from his care, and into the care of his primary care doctor. He said dad could do pretty much what he felt like doing. He also said, to take things kind of easy for the next few weeks, and to ease back into doing things. He also said he could drive if he wasn't taking pain medication (he's not) and if he thought he could react quickly enough to drive. (he does)

He's been taking things pretty slowly, however; so that's good. And he's getting stronger every day.

Then, when I went to work on Friday, I got some more good news!! The church wants me to keep working 4 days a week here in Sherman, and one day a week (on Fridays) in Durant. I will stay in Sherman Monday through Friday morning; then go to work Friday in Durant and stay the weekend at my house in Durant. Dad was REALLY happy about that! This is not permanent, but it's longer term than just temporary. Confused? ;o)

There is a lady who was just been made the office manager in Sherman. She is really good at administration; but lacks the background with the church - and that's what I have. So they want me to help her, so to speak, as far as how things are done, and things like that. Since I've worked here 15 years, and with the situation with Dad - they figured this works out for everyone. I'm not really training her on how to do her job... because she's so good at administrating - that's why she was made office manager..... but I'll just be there for - how does Bro. Duane (our pastor) want this done? type of things....

Only thing is, I lost my office in Durant - BUT I get to bring my 'real' computer to Sherman. So it's a trade-off - but losing the office is no big deal. I'm not shook up over that.... :o) I'm just happy I will get to be here with Dad longer. I was really concerned about having to leave him here by himself. But now it works out fine :o)

As for the animals - I have one bird (Skyler) here with me. She's the one who's pulling out her feathers.... I figured she'd do better down here, being with me most of the time. I have friends who go by and feed the animals while I'm down here. My being home on the weekends will help them tremendously.... lol I can take care of the animals Friday through Sunday night; and they can take care of them Monday through Thursday night. That will work out for everyone.

I went to Durant today - for church mainly - but also to clean out my office. I managed to get most all of my stuff (except for one box) in my car. I left the one box for someone to bring tomorrow :o) aren't I nice!?

Got everything back to Dad's and unloaded... also took the computer, printer and all, and put on my desk in Sherman. Didn't want to try and unload all that tomorrow; and didn't want to leave it in my car overnight, either. So now, all I have to do is get plugged in tomorrow, and I will be set :o)

Pretty long entry here, but I haven't entered anything in a while - so I thought I'd catch up. Off to bed now....

Sunday night

Good evening! I have spent my first weekend at my home since the first weekend in February! Friday night, I slept in my bed for the first time since then, as well. Wow, what a great weekend....

Played for a ladies retreat Friday night and Saturday morning and early part of the afternoon; we were out by three p.m. Have had a wonderful weekend at home; cleaned house a lot; did lots of laundry, as well.

Am staying home one more day and am taking tomorrow off; I fell on Saturday night and hurt my knee, so I'm giving it time to rest and recuperate. God is good, though - and it is very much improved. I'm believing it's going to be much more improved by tomorrow, so I can head back to Sherman for the work week. My kitties and birds are enjoying the fact that I'm staying here one more night! I know they will love it....

Am hoping to spend every weekend here, and spend the weeks working in Sherman. We'll see how that works out. It is nice to be here in my home, and nice to get some much-needed rest. Am looking forward to the week ahead, as well.

Tuesday night

Well, here it is, a Tuesday night in Sherman Texas. I'm home, after working all day. Had a relatively quiet day at work, so that was nice. :o)

Last weekend was the second weekend I have actually spent at my home in Durant. It's nice to be home, with all my critters, and sleeping in my own bed. Makes for a very relaxing time :o)

Next weekend is Easter!! Wow.... can't believe it's already here! Summer is just around the corner. It will get up in the 80's this week, with nighttime lows only around the 60's. That tells me summer can't be far away.

I got a new bird cage to leave down here at Dad's; I plan to have one bird down here for a week; then take it back for the weekend; then bring the other bird down the next week. Poor little Tweets.... I may just have to bring her along sometimes, too. I know she'd love it down here; Dad loves her and enjoys playing with her. Skyler's down here this week; it will be Kiwi's turn next week. We'll just see how things go from there....

Well, that's just about it - nothing much going on; except for the Easter services. We'll have a Saturday evening service at 6 p.m.; then our regular Sunday morning services; except we're changing the time of the latest service from 10:45 to 11:00 a.m. - that gives more time in between services; plus, I'm sure it helps the network, too... they broadcast the two services, and if the 3rd service was at 11:00 instead of 10:45, I'm sure that would help them in scheduling.

Ok, that's it for me.... :o)

Easter Sunday!

Today is Easter Sunday! What an awesome day! God is sooooo good.... and we had awesome services at church all weekend. Last night, we had a special service with Joel Engle and his band, who came and ministered. Then Bro. Duane preached his message on "Seven Statement From the Cross" and the media department showed video clips from "The Passion of the Christ" to complement each statement. Awesome stuff....

Then this morning, Joel and his band, combined with select musicians from our praise team (Gregg - Joel's brother; Leslie Shaw; Chris Farris; Robert Payne; Roger Franks; and Corbett Potter) all ministered at both the 9:00 and 11:00 services. And starting today, our 3rd service changed times from 10:45 to 11:00 a.m. Next Sunday, service times will be at 8:00, 9:00 and 11:00.... and from now on. Makes more sense to start on the hour anyway - and gives everyone more time between services, as well.

Got my things packed up and came back to Sherman this afternoon; brought Kiwi, my Senegal, with me for the week. I'm trading out birds - last week it was Skyler, my Quaker, and this week it will be Kiwi.

Anyway, that was my Easter day... it was a good day; got to see lots of people I hadn't seen in a long time, and I really enjoyed all the services. Gooood day in the Lord!

Changes, changes!

Boy, have there ever been changes in my little life! lol I found out on Tuesday, April 18, 2006, that the church is planning to tear down my house to make parking space! I have known this was coming for quite a while. But it was not quite the time in my life that I would have picked. However, I know it will work out in the end.

I have decided to buy instead of rent. And - I have decided to build instead of merely buy. :o) I will be able to get the exact house I want that way. I have not been impressed with anything that is for sale. And I really want to stay here in Durant. Even though it's not in Sherman - I just feel like this is really where I want to be. I didn't realize how much, until I was away for a while. Guess that turned out to be a good thing. :o)

So I have about three weeks to move - however, I don't have ALL that time - because I do still have to work. And I do still have to take care of Dad. What I may do is drive up after work a few nights, and move some stuff. Dad said I could use his truck. I may also need to recruit some help. I'm thinking about doing some rearranging - because I'll have to take my animals, as well.... so I'll have to use one bedroom as the "bird room." That will probably mean breaking down the bed that's in that bedroom.

I'd also really like to sleep in my bed, vs the bed that I'm sleeping on in Sherman. But we'll just have to see how that works out. Don't know if I can manage that or not.... will just have to see how things work out.

Dad worried me today when I called him. He said he was just getting more and more confused, and he thinks he needs to go to a nursing home or some place like an assisted living place for them to take care of him. He even talked about not driving anymore. And that is a big thing for him. I just don't know - I want to talk to the family and see what they think. It's a crazy time in my life right now!! But I know - as Mom used to say - this, too, shall pass. (can't wait! lol)

So such is my life.....

Dad

Well, we've had a wild ride since last time I wrote! I've had to move out of my house in Durant because they are tearing it down and moving it - to build more parking spaces. Just got finished with that this weekend (April 29-30, 2006).

Then yesterday, the home health care people wanted us to take dad to the ER because his heart rate was being so low. So we did; ended up, they're going to put a pacemaker in this afternoon. Some time after two p.m. So we'll see how that goes.

Another thing - I had to re-home all four of my cats. Well, a good friend is keeping Chicklet; but the others, I had to give away to good homes. It's weird to not have a single cat around.

Well, such is my crazy life!

** just a note - Chicklet is now living with me - she stayed with my friend for about a month; then she got an ear infection, and I was the only one who could give her meds. So she came home to Sherman with me. Dad did NOT like it at first; but he has since grown to love her. **
